About Us

Our Mission

Our mission is to study the continent of Africa in its uniqueness from an institutional perspective. We view Africa’s security and developmental challenges emerge from the fundamental lack of legitimate and sustainable institutions. The Center confronts these institutional challenges through research, round tables/workshops, conferences, and other enabling platforms to assist stakeholders inside and outside of Africa to understand and embrace the need to and subsequently help develop effective institutions in respective African states. We believe that once the institutional hurdles are overcome the challenges of security and development in the continent will be tractable.

Our Work

Our work is primarily focused on the continent of Africa. We are involved in the collection and analysis of both primary and secondary data on political, economic, societal institutions, and the scope of development on the continent. It should be noted that in addition to the nature and extent of Africa's development, which has been extensively explored and well documented, the Center also looks at these issues from a critical theoretical point of view by incorporating societal realities. We also engage public officials around the continent to share ideas on how to navigate the institutional space to ensure sustainable security and development. Both research and discussion outcomes are disseminated through book and article publications, documentaries, and workshops. The goal is that our work will enhance institutional reforms in both the public and private sectors, ensure effective capacity building, and judicious use of resources.
